Let's Make Your Custom Garment Together
Are you interested in sewing? Do you love our garments and want to know how to make them yourself? Add this Experience to any shirt or dress and we'll go on the journey together to create a custom garment for you from start to finish.
NOTE: Custom shirt or dress not included. Garments sold separately. You must also purchase a garment to participate in this Experience.
Not ready to purchase a garment, but still want a look behind the scenes? Check out our shorter 3-Hour Experience “Step Inside the World of Slow Fashion”.
In this 5-Hour Maker Experience (broken up into two sessions) we’ll begin with taking your measurements and discussing garment design. Then we’ll work through fabric selection, pattern making, cutting, sewing, fitting and finishing your bias-cut shirt or dress. Along the way, learn about sewing on the bias and the principles of slow fashion, including sustainable materials, production methods, creating lasting garments, and using waste fabric.
This is a wonderful introduction to slow fashion for anyone interested in fashion design, home sewing, and BTS (behind the scenes) experiences. All sewing levels are welcome. Depending on your expertise, the majority of garment construction can be completed by us, to ensure you leave with a garment of ready-to-wear quality. You will also receive a copy of your customized pattern to take home with you.
After we receive your order, we will contact you for scheduling. Garments not finished in the time allowed, will be completed and mailed out within a week of the experience. NOTE: If two or three people book an experience together, and each of you wants to be involved in constructing your garment from start to finish (up to 5 hours each), please purchase the 5-Hour Experience for One for each of you. Otherwise some of the duplicate steps of pattern making, cutting and sewing may be completed after hours without you.
For those not ready to try industrial machines, we also have home sewing machines or you can bring your own. Or just hang out, browse our sewing library, and ask questions while we do the sewing. Your level of involvement is up to you.
Our workshop is a lovely light-filled studio in a professional office space on the Coast of Maine. We are just steps away from the Blue Hill Co-Op and downtown Blue Hill for those who would like to grab lunch before or afterwards.
NOTE: This is not an introductory learn to sew class. You will do some sewing, regardless of your experience, but we will move through all tasks more quickly than a full sewing lesson would allow. However, if you would like to learn to sew, sign up for our One-on-One Sewing Time and we’ll customize lessons for you.
